President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the formation of a High-Level Advisory Council on Empowerment of Women and Girls in Nigeria.
Th transformational body and platform will advise the government on a broad range of women’s empowerment initiatives and address some of the coordination gaps in the current efforts to drive women’s empowerment.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, made the pronouncement at the flag Off of the National Woman’s Economic Empowerment Policy Dialogue Subnational Roadshow held in Kebbi state.
“Despite these gains, our work is only beginning, and we cannot relent in our fight to ensure that every Nigerian woman and girl can dream big dreams and envision the future that they want”. Said She
The Minister stated that, with effort to stem the level of poverty in the society and also provide a cushion from Covid-19 pandemic, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has disbursed loans, procured and distributed labour saving equipment that includes sewing and vulcanizing machines and as well generators to support women entrepreneurs and those in technical and vocational enterprises.
According to her, the Ministry has also organized several capacity building and financial literacy training for women and women-led cooperatives across all geopolitical zones of the country.
The Minister pointed out that, women’s contributions to economic development starts from the home, where families are groomed to go into the larger society.
The Kebbi State Governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu, said, over flirty thousand women benefited from the Nigeria for Women Project in the last one year with over two point seven billion naira expanded from the state.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the state, Umar Babale, said woman empowerment was a priority of the state government.
