boat conveying thirty four passengers in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger state has capsised killing ten people on board.
The incident occurred yesterday when the boat carrying thirty four people enroute from Zangoro Bassa Kukoki ward terminal to Gijiwa Kata ward terminal capsised killing ten passengers.
Director General Niger state Emergency Management Agency Abdullahi Baba Ara who confirmed the incident however attributed strong water waves grafting tree and water hyancinth as some of the factors responsible for the boat mishap.
He said twenty four survivors have been identified during rescue and search operation.
Among those that died in the boat mishap are Naima Ibrahim, Farida Muntari, Abubakar Sadiq, Safaratu Ibrahim, and Rafiya Yakubu together with two unidentified victims among others.
Chairman Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger state Alh Akilu Kuta had also visited the scene of the incident to show his deep concern and smypathise with families of the deceased over the unfortunate incident.
Some of the people interviewed by Radio Nigeria in the area called on Niger state government to expedite action towards finding lasting solution to the problem that has claimed many lives this year.
