The Permanent Secretary of Borno State Ministry of Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Alhaji Tahiru Shettima has pledged the full commitment of his Ministry to supporting the processes that will lead to a successful implementation of the Transitional Justice Project of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
with the support of the European Union (EU) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2021.
In a statement by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, National Human Rights Commission, Fatimah Agwai-Mohammed, the Permanent Secretary pledged his commitment while playing host to the Project team on a courtesy visit to his office in Maiduguri, to intimate him about the activities of the commission.
Alhaji Tahiru said the cardinal philosophy of his Ministry was openness, partnership, and commitment to move the state forward.. He pledged to give hundred percent support to the implementation of the Project”.
He said human rights were part of human existence and no society would thrive where the rights of people were not respected.
According to him, it is commendable that the government realizes the need to use the best approach to reconcile repentant insurgents with their host communities to engender the desired goal of bringing lasting peace in the North east.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Executive Secretary of the commission who also doubles as the Project Coordinator, Mr. Hilary Ogbonna said the NHRC and its partners were collaborating to implement the Project on Promoting Reconciliation, Reintegration, and Transitional Justice in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe State.
He said the project supported by the European Union (EU) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was to ensure that the affected States effectively stabilized and the spirit of forgiveness entrenched in the communities.
Mr. Ogbonna further said partnership was a major pillar of the Project, hence the essence of the visit.
Other personalities at the meeting were the Director of Primary Health Care, Director of Emirate Affairs, and other Management Staff of the Ministry.
