In Commemoration of this year's Great Green Wall Day, the National Agency of the Great Green Wall, (NAGGW), has embarked on an environmental sensitization campaign for secondary schools and some Communities in Yobe state. Speaking at the event, the Deputy Director of the resource mobilization and partnership building department from the national headquarters Abuja, Hajiya Habiba Musa Tumsa, said the mandate of the agency is to combat desertification, land degradation and improve of livelihood of communities. While addressing the Students of Nurussalam Comprehensive College Damaturu, she explained that the campaign for Secondary Schools aims to create awareness among the younger generation of being the backbone of society by showing them the importance of a conducive environment to human life.IMG 20240711 WA0008The Deputy Director pointed out that this year's celebration with a theme, "Fueling a greener future: clean cooking for sustainable development," is a clarion call to action that resonates deeply with the mission and vision of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall. According to her, imparting knowledge about climate change to the young people especially the students will help in addressing the menace. Hajiya Habiba Tumsa called on all the students to be an ambassador of climate change in the mobilization campaign by conveying the message to their communities. The team also visited Kasaisa, Malaria and Maisandara communities in Damaturu Local Government, where the Deputy Director encouraged them to imbibe the habit of tree planting and adopt clean cooking technologies for sustainable development. In his remarks, the Director of Forestry Yobe State Ministry of Environment Garba Tahir, revealed that Yobe State is one of the Frontline states that facing challenges of climate change and therefore call on all citizens to come together and work towards protecting the land against encroachment.
