The Acting Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, FFS, Dr. Karebo Pere Samson says the capacity of the Service to respond to emergencies has witnessed serious improvement under the current Administration.
He stated this in Abuja at a parley with the Media.
Dr. Karebo noted that modern fire fighting required the use technology and collaborative effort by all stakeholders.
“We want to take the Federal Fire Service to where it ought to be, the fire service of the 21st century which includes the use of drones to provide intelligence on threat around fire scenes due to incessant attacks on fire fighters across the Country. Response time to fire scenes has been a very bad challenge due to bad roads, distance to fire stations from scenes. We are building the capacity of our firemen to efficiently respond to fire incidents at shops, malls and other public buildings,” Dr Karebo said.
The Acting Controller General while highlighting areas of priority for the service said training and welfare of officers remained top on the list.
“Only recently, we recommended to the board instant promotion for all the officers that attended to the recent Fire Tanker explosion at Mobil Filling Station in idi-oro Mushin Area of Lagos State which would have been a National disaster. We also recommended to the Honorable Minister of Interior the promotion of over 278 Staff who have been redundant for over 25 years,” Dr Karebo added
Dr. Samson who thank President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for their support, promised to consolidate on the achievements in the Federal Fire Service.
