The National Human Rights Commission NHRC is to visit police stations across the Federation to assess Human Rights Compliance in detention centers.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission Mr. Tony Ojukwu stated this at a training programme in Abuja.
Mr. Ojukwu explained that the audit exercise was not meant to witch-hunt anyone or any institution but aimed at ensuring that human rights are promoted and protected, including the rights of persons in detention.
In a remark, the Director Human Rights Institute Mrs Ifeoma Wakama told the participants to ensure that tools used during monitoring and data collection in detention centers must be accurate for a reliable data.
The Acting Executive Director of a non-governmental organization CLEEN Foundation Mrs Ruth Olofin said the training would Contribute immensely to improving policing.
The States that would be visit include Sokoto State for Northwest, Bauchi State for Northeast, Benue State for North Central, Oyo State for Southwest, Imo State for Southeast, Edo State for South south and the FCT.
