Nigerian Army says it has come up with modalities to assist the civil authority in the provision of enabling environment for peaceful 2023 general elections in the country.
The Chief of Army staff lieutenant general Faruk Yahya gave the assurance at the end of the chief of Army staff annual conference held in Sokoto state.
He said Practicable strategies have been proffered to ensure violence free, during and after the 2023 electioneering period.
In Sokoto report say that the conference was aimed at discussing prospect and challenges of the Nigerian Army was also used to discuss how to assist democratic processes in the upcoming elections in the country.
Lieutenant General Faruk Yahya said the lessons learnt during the security support for the elections held in Anambra, Ekiti and Osun States were also deliberated upon with sound conclusions reached to enhance security in the up-coming elections.
According to him, the objectives of the Conference have been achieved with evident from the sound contributions of the resource persons and participants for improved operations of officers and Men in protecting the Nation’s boundaries.
The Chief of Army staff ordered commanders to adheres to the reviewed Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct in all operations with a view to ensuring unity and enhanced security for peaceful coexistence in the country.
Lieutenant General Faruk Yahya highlighted the importance of synergy with the Nigerian Police, Department of State Services and the Nigerian Correctional Service to reinforce security measures in all correctional facilities in their Areas of Responsibilities.
He also ordered the commanders to always liaise with local authorities, traditional leaders and youth leaders to facilitate information gathering for operations and crises management.
The Chief of Army staff expressed the Nigerian Army’s respect and profound gratitude to the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, for attending the opening ceremony of this conference in person as the Special Guest of Honour and also for his unflinching support to the Nigerian Army.
