President Muhammadu Bihari has directed that the the cost required to feed a child in the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme be increase from 70 Naira per meal daily to 100 Naira.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq made this known in Abuja at a two-day National Consultative Meeting on Public Food Procurement in the Context of Nigeria’s National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in collaboration with Resolve to Save Lives, RTSL.
Represented by the National Coordinator, National Social Investment Programme, Dr. Umar Bindir, the Minister Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq explained that the review was to reflect the current economic realities.
Hajiya Sadiya noted the meeting was to improve and enhance its mode of operation of the programme.
The RTSL Country Representative Dr Emmanuel Agogo said the meeting was imperative to ensure the pupils are feed nutritious meal according W.H.O requirement.
The Home Grown School Feeding Program was initiated in 2016 with the collaboration of international development partners to provide nutritious meal for public school children in primary1 to 3 as well as to increase school enrolment.
