Men of Ogun state Police Command have arrested a 46-year old man, Hassan Azeez for allegedly pouring petrol on his wife and set her ablaze for failing to prepare food for him.
The suspect was arrested after the victim’s father reported at Ibogun divisional headquarters that her daughter, Olayinka Hassan was set ablazed by her husband over a minor disagreement.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement said the victim had been rushed to an hospital in Ibadan.
Mr Oyeyemi said the suspect claimed that he had asked his wife to prepare food for him, but instead of the victim to prepare his food, she was busy washing clothes.
The Command’s spokesman said his wife’s act got him angry because he was hungry and pour petrol on her and set her on fire.
When asked whose clothes the woman was washing, he confessed that it was his clothes.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be transferred to Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible prosecution.
