House of Representatives has ordered the immediate restoration of security operatives withdrawn recently from Shimfida town in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina state.
The directive followed a motion by a member from Katsina State, Alh Sada Soli Jibia adopted by the house during it’s plenary session.
Alh Sada Soli, explained that last week security personnel comprising the Nigerian Army, the Police and officers the Nigeria Security and Civil defense Corps stationed at the area were retrieved without any official notice or explanation to the Katsina State government.
The lawmaker told the house that as a result of the sudden disappearance of the combined security personnel communities in the area panicked and trek for nearly thirty kilometers to neighbouring Jibia town for safety.
He said as at the time of presenting the motion on the floor of the house, ten people have been reported died due to exhaustion, many suffered various ailments due to unfavorable weather conditions and hunger while greater part of the town was destroyed.
The member also observed that the absence of the security personnel have caused the people to completely desert the village, leaving the elderly and the weak to suffer attacks, kidnappings and rape.
While dopting the motion, the house urged the ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development as well as the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, to urgently provide relief materials to the displaced people.
